What Tony Hawk Pro Skater Taught Me

A couple of weeks ago I found out that one of my favorite video games is being remastered and released this fall. I am excited about it. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is one of the games I remember playing most throughout my teens. It had a memorable soundtrack. The levels were fun and challenging throughout the game.

It also introduced me into the world of skating, which I didn't really know a whole lot about at the time. I was curious about the skaters in the game and wanted to know more about what made them great. I had friends who were also into skateboarding too.

While I was never good at skating in real life, I was a master at pulling off a combo of tricks in the game. THPS 2 is one of those games I will always remember fondly and I hope younger generations will enjoy it as much as I did when I was a teen.

Here are some of the life lessons I took away from playing video games:
  1. Risk taking has it's big payoffs.
  2. Creativity is a combination of what we know we can do and the things we have yet to try.
  3. Sometimes we can find good music in the most unlikely places.
  4. None of us start off great. We learn through experience.
  5. Falling down is a part of life but we usually get back up.
Is there a video game you remember fondly? If so, is there anything you took away from it?
