Runners Guide to the Galaxy And Everything Inbetween Part II
A couple of days ago I wrote about some of the cool apps and gear I use on my run. One of my favorite apps I use is Spotify. I tend to listen to a lot of music on my runs especially during races. It helps me keep a steady pace and also push myself depending on the song. A balanced playlist can make a difference.
Here are some of the songs from the first half marathon I ran in Hattiesburg:
Here are some of the songs from the first half marathon I ran in Hattiesburg:
- Jenny Lewis-Aloha & the Three Johns
- Heavy Metal Drummer-Wilco
- The Space Program-A Tribe Called Quest
- While Ocean Sleeps-Sparta
- The World is Yours-Nas
- Zac Brown Band-Uncaged
- The Motherload-Mastodon
- Orion-Metallica
- Black Panther Soundtrack
Usually when I create a playlist I try to mix up a variety of artist so it doesn't become monotonous. Certain songs keep me at a steady pace while other songs make me speed up and excited to be out for a run. While music might not be everyone's cup of tea there are also podcast out there that are great for passing the time on a long run.
Here are some podcast related to running that I have enjoyed even when I am not on a run:
- Marathon Training Academy
- Bib Rave Podcast
- Ten Junk Miles
- Running on Om
Some other podcast that I tend to listen to during a run that aren't related to running include:
- Fat Burning Man
- Talk is Jericho
- Freakonomics
- Pod Save America
Music and podcast can be helpful when passing the time on a long run but it's not for everyone. Sometimes it's good to experiment to see what feels most comfortable. Running should be fun or at the very least tolerable. On another note it's important to be aware of your surroundings whether your listening to something or not. What are some artists or podcast you listen to? I am always opens to hearing new suggestions.
