Spring Break

There are times when being a teacher can be exhausting. Teachers work more than 40 hours a week lesson planning, making copies, buying resources, and of course teaching students throughout the week. That's not including all the additional errands that make them a fully functional person. It's easy to see why some teachers burn out throughout the year.

I have never been more thankful for spring break than I have this year. My students finished taking their third benchmark and I experienced some exhaustion that last day. Right now I feel a little better going into the next few months of school after coming back from my trip. I spent most of my time on the beach in Biloxi with friends. The weather wasn't perfect but we made the best of it. I finished reading Savage Inequalities, which if you guessed it's about the education systems in part of the country. It's eye-opening and a must read for those who want to know more about the economic disparity in this country when it comes to education.

I also spent a lot of my time eating and drinking with friends while also exploring the down town areas of Biloxi, Gulfport, and Ocean Springs. While we were also there we stayed in a bayou home, which was beautiful. On the last day we stayed at a casino, too. I have never gambled before and I didn't start this week. I did learn a little bit about it though and was intrigued by how fun it could be for others. It was a great week of fun with friends. It also made me realize that the year is coming to a close soon. I am going to miss a few of the people that I have met over the past two years and am wishing the best for them.

Did you have a spring break? What did you enjoy doing throughout the week? If you didn't, what was something you wish you could do?
