Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Review

April is slowly coming to an end and we are still in quarantine. Sometimes it feels like there is no end in sight. I find myself binge watching television shows a lot more than I usually do during the weekend after my long runs.

While it is easy to get sucked into watching crime dramas, survival shows, and documentaries, I have been watching Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist for the past couple of weeks.

A little background about the show: Zoey works at a tech company. Her boss, Joan, gives her a promotion, which upsets her own team. She has a crush on the new guy, Simon.  Her best friend/coworker, Max, secretly has feelings for her. To top it off her father has a neurological disease that doesn't seem to be getting better. On the bright side, Zoey becomes a mutant in the first episode. Okay maybe not a mutant, but she is able to hear people's thoughts. These thoughts take the form of popular songs and dance, which lead to drama throughout the show.

What I enjoy about this show is that it's silly. It has the right amount of drama and comedy to make you forget about everything that's going on right now. A lot of the songs are familiar to me such as the Clash, Simon & Garfunkel, Jason Mraz, and Gwen Stefani to name a few. There are some moments in the show that I feel are played out in television such as the love triangle between her and her two co-workers. There are other moments in the show that are touching though. The relationship with her family and her father is one of the things I like about the show. I also like the relationship between her and her roommate.

There are a few recurring characters that I also enjoyed throughout the show as I genuinely would get a chuckle out of something they would say. While the show is not over yet, I am interested to see how the first season will end. I would recommend this for someone who loves musicals with popular music.
