It's a Marathon, Not a Race
It's hard to believe that 2 months have gone by so quickly. These last couple of weeks I have been training for the Mississippi Blues Marathon. A part of me wasn't sure if it was doable due to the time constraint and the uncertainties that lie ahead to prepare for the 26.2 mile journey. Injuries happen. Weather can turn to s***. Life comes at you in ways you can't predict. I had 8 weeks to prepare.
I accomplished the big goal I set out for myself last year though. I might have made a wrong turn at some point during the race and caught off guard by the brutal hills but I completed the race in 3 hours and 32 minutes. During that time, I thought about where and what my next journey will bring me. My legs locked up at some point toward the end of the race that I was unsure if I could make it but I was determine to finish anyway. I have spent so much time finishing what I have started over the last two months so why stop now.
One thing that I have enjoyed during my training is finishing books that people have gave to me overtime or recommended to me. I am impressed with the world building, history, and character development in Way of the Kings. I highly recommend it for those looking for a good fantasy novel. Coming of Age in Mississippi is what I expected it to be for a memoir on growing up in the South and living in poverty. The Nightingale was suspenseful. I finished that book in 3 days. All it took for me to finish them was patience. Maybe that's all it takes to accomplish something huge.
