Cars, Running, and School

School is finally out for the year for students. Like students, teachers are excited for the break as well. I had a pretty good year working with the Jackson Public School District, even if there were a few bumps along the way. I will miss my homeroom. I don't think I have ever seen a group of kids who were passionate about learning math. Some of my students asked questions that went beyond what they have normally been taught and were excellent about taking feedback. Of course they are teenagers and even they have their limits. They were still a wonderful group of kids to have and I hope they succeed as adults.

Now that the school year is done, I recently traveled back to Austin in search of a new car and to spend time with my family. Luckily I was able to get a good deal on a Honda. I appreciate the time my parents spent helping me through the process.  It took hours but it was definitely a learning experience. I had so many fond memories in my Pontiac and I will definitely miss ever mile I put on that car.

I am pretty excited to create memories with my new car. I have already planned on taking a trip to El Paso to visit my grandparents. I haven't seen them in a few months so it will be nice to hang out with them. I also hope to bump into friends along the way and do a bit of training. El Paso is at a higher elevation and is much drier than other places. It will take getting used to but I think it will benefit me as a runner for the time I spend there. I remember running after high school and I honestly don't know how I survived the dry heat. I build endurance during my time with the cross country team.

One thing that's been on my mind lately is whether I want to run a marathon. It is such a daunting goal and I am pretty sure I can do it. I just don't see myself being happy while I train for it. Normally I am fine running on my own, but I have never run that far before. It might help if I had someone to hold me accountable. For me it's not one of my big goals this year but I certainly wouldn't mind adding that to the list for the end of the year or even next year. I have already completed the three fun runs I wanted to do this year. I think it's time to focus on dance lessons.

Do you have any goals you are still trying to complete this year? If so, I would love to hear about them.
