Carry on My Wayward Son
Traveling can be a fun experience depending on who you go with and what you plan out during the trip. For the past two weeks, I have been traveling through the Midwest to explore another part of the country I haven't seen before. (Hello Kansas, how are you doing?) I spent hours and hours of driving, and catching up with family and friends. As I reflect on my experience, here are a couple of thoughts that come to mind:
- Make the most out of what you have and where you are.
While Kansas may not be the most ideal place for a vacation, I had fun visiting museums, hiking Tallgrass Prairie, and dining out on delicious food. All I needed to do was spend a few hours researching what's in Kansas and asking friends for recommendations. There wasn't a single day where I was bored. Kansas has some historical landmarks, unique landscapes, and Kansas City is well-known for their BBQ, too.
- Podcast are your friend.
Sometimes it can be easy to get bored sitting in a car for hours and hours. I spent 32 hours on the road during my trip, but I spent most of my time listening to podcast. Most of my time on the road flew by quickly because I was engrossed by the podcast I picked out. I learned about food and fitness through Primal Endurance and Fat Burning Man. Of course I had to lighten it up by listening to a Harry Potter podcast called Potterless.
- My friends and family are awesome.
I haven't seen a few of my friends and family in a long time. It felt great to reunite with them and catch up with what they have been up to since we last saw each other. It's amazing how much can change in a few years and somehow friendships can last forever. I also appreciate my friends who are trying to make a difference in people's lives!
- Maximize every minute. (But appreciate the little things)
During my trip, I tried to make the most of my time. I did everything I wanted to do on my list but I allowed myself time to reflect and appreciate the moment. The one thing that I can remember most about Kansas was the cool breeze from time to time along with the clear blue sky.
