100 Day Spanish Streaks and Workouts
It's hard to believe that it's been about 5 or 6 months since the coronavirus hit the US. Schools were shutdown across the country in March and eventually that led to an attempt at virtual learning from March through May. Then summer arrived and whatever plans I had in mind were thrown out the window.
Trips are cancelled. Races are cancelled. Concerts are cancelled. But when I think about it life goes on and I have tried to make the best of it. Over the last couple of weeks I have found myself listening to more podcast and learning Spanish on Duolingo before school starts back up. I already hit the 100 day streak and am slowly working my way to future tense in Spanish. In addition to that I have met my book reading goal for the year, and might hit 1,000 miles of running by my birthday. So I feel accomplished.
I have also tried some workout apps this summer since I haven't really gone to the gym since February. I tried out Peloton for cardio workouts which were intense and I definitely worked up a sweat. What I liked about the app is they had a variety of short or long workout sessions from strength training, running, cycling, and meditation.
For yoga, I decided to try out the DDPY app to see what the buzz is about. They offer some easy to intense workout sessions. There was also a nutrition side to the app but I never got to explore much of it. The app was helpful and I think in some ways DDP has made it more accessible for people to do yoga who might not have thought about it otherwise. The only thing I noticed during the yoga workouts is that it feels very much like they are trying to sell you something you are already doing which might turnoff some people.
While I only did the 7 day trial, I have also been following yoga instructors on Instagram who also have some good sessions. I ended up challenging myself by doing a 30 day challenge. Honestly, it felt great. I have really tried to keep things simple and find happiness in the small things, whether it's watching wrestlers playing Uno, or kayaking on a cool Saturday morning. Even a pint of ice cream or a nice warm meal has been rewarding during this time. I don't know what the school year will bring but I will continue to enjoy the little moments.
