Thanksgiving Break

Every year around this time in November I spend time reflecting on what I am thankful for. I think it's easy to get overwhelmed or stressed over the holidays. Thanksgiving can be a difficult time for some people whether it's having to prepare food or clean up around the house. Maybe it's spending time with people for a few hours. (Advice: Don't talk about politics or football)  Christmas is also around the corner, which can also be stressful on the wallet. For me being able to reflect helps me navigate around all that.

Sometimes it can be hard to put into words without sounding repetitive but I am grateful for the people I've met and the experiences I've had throughout the year. It has been quiet a journey. I feel like I have learned a lot about myself and have so much to learn as an educator in my field. I am thankful for my family doing okay and I am also thankful for my health.

I am also thankful for a much needed break because sometimes work can be a bit much. Self care is important and I think during the holidays we could all use a bit of it even when we are on vacation. For me it's been watching cartoons, reading a book, and cooking a delicious meal. Thanksgiving and Christmas might be overwhelming but it's good to check in with ourselves by finding things that will bring us joy.

Thanksgiving isn't about the food or the terrible history. It's about being grateful.
