Under the Influence of....
This year I found myself listening to a lot of podcast, watching different documentaries/youtube videos, and reading books. One of my goals for this year was to dig deep and educate myself on things I haven't been keeping up with for a while. I thought it would be fun to share some of the things that have influenced my lifestyle this year.
During my road trips over the summer I found myself listening to Primal Endurance, Fat Burning Man, and Healthy Gut Girl. What I enjoyed most about listening to these podcast is that they had some hidden nuggets of information when it comes to health and exercise. It also helped during my time on the Whole30 diet. Fat Burning Man seems to focus on diet and health, while Primal Endurance is great when it comes to training and other related things such as sleep and diet. It's a shame I never got around to taking some of the advice for training since I have been injured but it certainly on my radar whenever I start running again. Healthy Gut Girl also has their share of advice when it comes to diet and health related topics.
A few other podcast that I have been listening to this year are Pod Save America, Political Gabfest, and Right, Left, and Center. It's always good to hear different ideas about certain topics and issues happening in our country. Over the past 2 years, I have been focused on teaching that I rarely have time to read what's going on the news. I made it a mission to learn about what is happening with the democratic candidates this year. There are also topics and issues I normally wouldn't think about so listening to these podcasts have been helpful. I need to learn more about MS politics though.
When it comes to some of the books I have read throughout the year, it was interesting to read about the data gap between gender and how it affects how decisions our made for society. It has been a long time since I have read books like this but when it comes to data I think it's important to examine the bias when it comes to how data is collect and what kind of impact it will have on the community. It would be nice to limit that gap by including women into the conversation. Some other books I read throughout the year were related to leaders such as Pete Buttigieg and Stacey Abrams. When it came to Pete's book, he brought up some good points about how important data can be when it comes to decision making but there are certain things that can't be measured from it.
Something else that has been useful lately is youtube. Lately I have been watching Celtic Workout videos. I first heard about it on a podcast a while back and started watching it. Each video shows WWE superstar, Sheamus, workout with other people and get the scoop behind that person's workout. The idea behind the videos is pretty cool to me since it allows people to see different types of workouts they may not be familiar with. As someone who goes to the gym every other day, I usually do the same typical workout. Watching these videos gave me an insight on other exercises I could do in the gym and how to use certain machines to my benefit.
The last thing that has influenced me is music. I have found myself listening to Dierk Bentley's last record a lot throughout this year. Part of why I enjoy it so much is that I find myself relating to a lot of the themes on the record. When it comes to the past, traveling light sounds like a good idea. And while there might be mountains in my way, I should always keep moving while also taking in the beauty of life. There's a lot to unpack every time I listen to this record and it puts me in a good mood whenever I listen to it.
Anyways that's what's been influenced me throughout this year, what are some of the things that have influenced you? What are some of the things that have encouraged or inspired you in a positive way throughout the year.
